An Indian New Year

January 2018.

So this is my first post about India but by no means was this my first visit to India.

My ethnicity is of course Indian so to begin the new year, I took a trip back to the motherland for a family wedding.

The wedding took place in my family hometown of Mumbai and like most Indian weddings it was extravagant, colourful and the long list of Hindu rituals took place across many days (Indians don't do a one day wedding!)

After the wedding festivities were over, I was lucky enough to travel to Jaipur for the first time - also known as the 'Pink City' based on the vibrant pink colours of its buildings.

Whilst in Jaipur, we stayed at Chokhi Dhani Ethnic Resort & Hotel and let me tell you it's like no hotel you will ever stay at! The 5 star hotel is made up of traditional Rajasthani cottages and suites which captures the unique Rajasthani culture.

Alongside the hotel is the Chokhi Dhani Village, which is actually open to the general public in the evenings, and offers a perfect Rajasthani experience including live music, dance shows, traditional food and so much more! We spent a few of our evenings in the Village (as it's free for hotel guests) and we loved every second of it!

Making the most of our time in Jaipur we made sure to visit all the 'must-see' locations including the Hawa Mahal, City Palace, Jaigarh Fort (which holds Jaivana - the worlds largest cannon) and Amber Palace.

Overall this trip was incredibly memorable and will hold a special place in my heart - it's always nice to rekindle old family relationships and build new memories in your home country.

Jai Hind!

Pooja x
